The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta for his significant contribution in advancing global efforts to establish a pandemic preparedness framework.
Kenyatta was acknowledged for his advocacy and leadership in promoting the WHO Pandemic Agreement, recently endorsed by the 78th World Health Assembly.
The certificate of recognition reads: “His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, former President of Kenya, The World Together, in recognition of your role in championing and advocating for the WHO Pandemic Agreement adopted by the seventy-eighth World Health Assembly.”
Uhuru led Kenya through the COVID-19 crisis and was instrumental in implementing both local and international measures to mitigate the pandemic’s impact.
The WHO member states officially adopted the pandemic agreement in May 2025, marking a unified global strategy to strengthen readiness and response mechanisms for future public health emergencies.
The pact introduces a coordinated framework that emphasizes equal access to vaccines, diagnostics, and treatment, while also aiming to address systemic failures witnessed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It further outlines approaches to improve funding, streamline response protocols, and close existing gaps in global health infrastructure.
This milestone agreement follows three years of multilateral negotiations and reflects a shared global resolve to improve resilience and collaboration in managing pandemics.
